What my Guru told me, questioned my practice
Mar 2021 – I finally received my 1st Mudgar.
I was excited, and why not?
After 4 months of Meipadam practice, I held the Mudgar
The classes started. The first swing showed the power of this practice
However, after few weeks, I felt we only did basic swings.
Swings that a 60yr old should have been prescribed
My mind was like, I want to do deep lunges and flip the Mudgar. Just like Bahubali swinging his sword đ
I kept patience for a few more classes until I asked
âWhen do we start learning advanced swings?
I had earned the right to ask(after 4months of patient Meipadam practice)
My Guru said,
Basics are advanced
(Silence)
He repeated, âBasics are advancedâ.
What does he mean?
Basics are just basics, right?
Then he said –
âWhen one learns a new skill, one rushes to advance.
However, the hurry doesnât help your practice. It becomes worse. Like a chair with weak legs.
Put too much pressure, and everything breaks
Focus on the basic swing. Do 500+ reps. Internalise it.
Even if you get good, keep practising.
Set foundation for advanced.â
It reminded me of Karate kid movie
With Mr. Miyagiâs instructions, he kept waxing the cars 1000 times.
With patience and 1 question – When will we learn Karate?
Little did he know that he had already built strong shoulders – Wax on, wax off đ
